The children soldier dilemma is not isolated to Uganda. I think you can find these situations all throughout Africa. Besides Obama, did anyone notice which political parties were featured in the video?Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-66078887909475431762009-11-11T17:25:00.000-08:002009-11-11T17:32:10.850-08:00I guess I'm a slow readerWell the reading class was quite educational. It seems to me that reading speed and comprehension are inversely related. The faster I read the less I get. I also realized that I am easily distracted when taking reading tests. If I could I have taken the LSAT at home with a comfortable environment I'd be suing people and making a fortune. Anyway, most of you have done a nice job blogging. My JOSH Penry connection sort of scoffed at me, but I will try to get him to class. I just heard a great line on the radio- "Where in the Constitution does it state that government has the right to make us purchase a good or service like health care?" Something to ponder.

El Coit O
Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-40947465385163359162009-11-10T15:17:00.000-08:002009-11-10T15:24:07.710-08:00One of our students blogged about the Ft. Please make sure that you have a comment section at the bottom of each post, so I can give you my take.

Yes, Josh Penry is not running for Governor of Colorado. I don't mind the one a week idea, with the exception of maybe having assigned blogs for specific assignments. Check out the cabinet quiz on the blog site! Great review of the material. I am also the golf coach now and will be missing several days during fourth quarter. I would like to make sure that you are productive during those class days. Ideas? I have some excellent videos and writing assignments. I thought the commenting California on Hillary's blog was harmless yet encouraging. So I will think about that issue. If you miss class make sure you follow FMHS protocol. The illness needs to be excused. Sleeping in to relieve stress is healthy but rarely excusable. Have a lovely evening.Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-31615303293368166702009-01-26T19:11:00.000-08:002009-01-26T19:20:18.226-08:00A little bit of effortI'm noticing a drop in test scores and work habits. I think it has been difficult to mesh 2nd period and 3rd period. Both classes had distinct personalities and attributes. But the bottom line is I'd like to try to maximize learning coupled with enjoyable activities. Now the next unit will be President/Executive Branch. I know some students like the fishbowl and debating, while some kids prefer lecture. I don't care, however, everyone could do a little better job reading the text. I also would like to go watch the Nixon movie in the next two weeks. It is showing at the new theater north of the mall. ClassToday, we went over how a bill becomes a law. It is rather complicated so make sure you study. Know your congressman of Colorado. BTW, Bennett wants to be on the agricultural committee. Make sure you have watched one hour of "Mr. Smith goes to Washington". It is an excellent movie. Read about 'pork' and write a short blog. Remember blogging is worth 5 points per blog. I will give you 3 points for one day late blogging. When you write your bills consider your party and constituency. How many greenies are elected in place like..... western Colorado. Make sure you are caught up on the text reading. Great Cnn student news today. Should cell phones be banned while driving. (YES!) I'm off to run-literally.

Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-45744171684487966122009-01-07T18:07:00.001-08:002009-01-07T18:13:23.605-08:00Happy New YearWelcome back to second semester. I think this is a rather exciting time in our history and government. I would like you guys to follow current events and other government happenings. This quarter we will have several blogging assignment, so keep up and enjoy blogging. Keep the blogs short and sweet.

Coit
Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-18337279756694627582008-11-17T19:34:00.000-08:002008-11-17T19:36:59.776-08:00Essay test on Thursday/FridayWhen writing essays for the AP Govt test make sure you identify, explain, and describe succinctly. I am giving two questions on Thursday. You need to make sure you are caught up on your reading and filling out the guided notes. That is encouraging. The test will be curved so that if you missed 11 you could still get an A. I think Justin Kattnig was the top scorer. I guess this is just good birthday karma. Nice job Justin. Hillary and Katie also did well.

Ok the next unit will not have a major paper, but you will have to write two briefs about Supreme Court cases. I will assign you two cases in class. You will have to write a brief and present a discussion about your case to the class. And yes I will go over what you need to know for the test. This unit will help you with the "We the People" unit. Briefs are the heart of what law students do, so if you are interested in law school, hopefully this be a rather exciting unit. The We the People lady lives in Buena Vista and is trying to judge us by Dec 2. If she cannot make it, then maybe................. dr. Parentice could judge you which means a trip to the state capitol. I hope this works out.Tim Coithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02661280217572815832noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282483892754596421.post-62933525968739503472008-10-28T19:08:00.000-07:002008-10-28T19:15:21.451-07:00John Salazar at LaBambaAccording to one of our esteemed students, John Salazar is going to be at LaBamba at 5:00 on Wednesday. It sounds like a excellent opportunity to meet our US Rep and ask him about the War in Iraq, redistribution of wealth, or any other policy concern. Maybe we can get him to visit our class someday. But I might miss the ambiance of Room 114. Anyway, it seems that second period is playing Barrack to third periods McCain. Second period is averaging more blogs and showing more enthusiasm. Maybe 3rd period needs to work on Time Management. (this is an inside joke- so don't be offended) The polls are consistently showing Obama with a rather comfortable lead. McCain might try something drastic this week- watch closely! 2nd period discussed the Marxist question on the Florida TV interview. 3rd period might want to become familiar with this concept. I heard on TV tonight that if Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are in charge that the US will turn into a western European Socialist Country. I'm sure someone in 2nd period has an opinion on that. He is losing by 10 points in some polls. However, Clinton did extremely well in Pennsylvania and McCain might be trying to get those votes. If McCain were to win Pennsylvania, he could afford to lose Virginia, Nevada, and Colorado while maintaining the 2004 other Bush red states. What do you think? First, Obama has a slight lead in Colorado. Expect McCain or Palin in the next month. Second, Florida and Ohio are now back to swing states. I think this can be attributed to the financial crisis. And finally, Hillary and the Clintons are being criticized about their lack of campaigning for Obama.

BTW, if you have an hour, watch both Fox and MSNBC. It looked like the crowd was passionate. He also mentioned the bad day on the stock market. He is doing this for a reason.
